Price Increase Due to Tariff Issues
Okuma MPS45 Ord.No. 1006-2203 Power Supply
Recently, a renowned company that operates several Okuma machines in its machining facility contacted us. The customer informed us that, due to recent tariff issues with the USA, they can no longer rely on the original machine manufacturer. Because of these tariff complications, the prices for replacement units have drastically increased by 40%. The mentioned replacement device, which is only available through exchange, now costs a hefty 9,000 euros. Our customer found it outrageous that the supplier completely passed on these increased costs. In his opinion, an increase of 20% would have been sufficient; a 40% increase seemed excessive to him.
Searching for Alternatives and Opting for Repair
Due to this significant price increase, the customer sought alternative solutions and ultimately decided to have the device repaired by us. He was aware of one drawback: the repair would take several days. His previous supplier likely would have delivered the replacement the next day. Despite the wait, our extremely fair price convinced him, and he accepted the slightly longer waiting period.
Transparency and Trust Through Clear Communication
As we work with transparent fixed repair rates, exactly this openness was crucial for our customer. The honest presentation on our website, along with our videos demonstrating how units are tested on an actual machining center, provided him with additional trust. In total, the customer paid 1,700 euros for the repair, and including installation, the entire repair took less than a week.
International Logistics: Shipping to New Zealand
This example clearly shows that a repair can be a highly sensible alternative to purchasing new, especially if the service provider possesses substantial repair experience. Incidentally, our customer is based in New Zealand, and yet it was economically feasible to ship the defective component around the world by express. The total shipping costs were only 300 euros for round-trip transport. This illustrates that distance nowadays is no obstacle when partnering with reliable shipping companies. Of the one-week total, four days were spent on shipping, and only two days on the actual repair.
Experience and Quality with Okuma Devices
We have been repairing Okuma’s MIV series for five years now. During this time, we have developed specialized testing facilities and even own an original Okuma machining center. This allows us to test almost all Okuma MIV, MIP, and VAC units under realistic conditions. Thanks to these standardized procedures, we have experienced no complaints and consistently offer high quality at a fair price.
The MPS45 is a regenerative DC power supply that converts AC voltage into DC voltage and simultaneously feeds excess energy back into the grid, such as energy generated during motor braking. It supplies multiple MIV servo amplifiers with 300 V DC for motor control and 24 V DC for control electronics. Communication with the MIV units is carried out via a so-called “Converter Link.”
